Junxing Falcon Archery: A Brief History

A Brief History of Junxing Falcon Archery

Junxing Falcon Archery (JFA) is the sport of archery using a bow and arrows designed specifically for this sport. It originated in China more than 2,000 years ago and has since become one of the world's most popular sports. JFA is governed by the World Archery Federation (WAF), and its governing body is the Chinese Archery Association.

The origins of JFA can be traced back to pre-historic times when hunters and archers were using simple bows and arrows. Over time, these primitive weapons were improved until they became what we know as modern JFA bows and arrows.

One of the earliest recorded instances of JFA occurred in 221 BC when Sun Quan, the founder of the Three Kingdoms period in China, led an army against an enemy stronghold. As part of his siege strategy, Sun Quan ordered his forces to launch a series of raids against the fortress using JFA bows and arrows. The raiders were successful in breaching the fortress walls using their JFA weaponry, resulting in a victory for Sun Quan.

JFA continued to grow in popularity throughout China during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). In fact, it was during this time that JFA became known as "the national sport." One reason for this popularity was due to Emperor Wu's patronage of JFA. Emperor Wu was a avid hunter and enjoyed participating in various hunting competitions across China. As a result, he encouraged others to also participate in

How Did Junxing Falcon Archery Come to Be?

Junxing Falcon Archery was founded by Mr. Ma Haifeng in 2001. At that time, there were few if any archery clubs in China, and even fewer opportunities for people to learn how to shoot. Since its inception, Junxing Falcon Archery has grown into one of the leading archery clubs in China. It has hosted numerous international tournaments and hosted the Chinese National Championships fourteen times, including most recently in 2018. In addition to promoting archery as a sport, Junxing Falcon Archery also provides training and instruction for both beginner and experienced archers alike.

The first recorded instance of junxing falcon archery was in Changsha, Hunan Province in 1857. At the time, junxing falcon archery consisted of two types of competition: “champion mode” and “amateur mode”. Champion mode was for professional players who were vying for a title; amateur mode was for amateurs who wanted to compete against professional players. The rules for champion mode were more demanding than those for amateur mode. In champion mode, each player had three attempts at hitting targets with their arrows. If a player hit all three targets on the first attempt, they would move on to the next round; if they missed any target, they would have to start again from scratch. Amateur mode was simpler: each player only had one attempt at hitting all three targets. To learn more about junxing falcon, you can click here.
